The September 29, 2020 Presidential Debate was a national disgrace. For too long members of the American public and the media have galloped to legitimize the presidency of Donald J. Trump. This has been a losing proposition. On Tuesday we were trampled upon; our bones--made brittle by this incompetent, careening president who is evidently accountable to no one--have been smashed to smithereens.

After being assaulted by the president's rudeness, dishonesty, lack of empathy and basic decency, disrespect for democracy and overtures to white supremacists, We the People decline to support more of these dangerous, belittling circuses in the 2020 election cycle.

We demand that the Commission on Presidential Debates suspends all presidential debates for the remainder of the 2020 election cycle. The Commission on Presidential Debates must do what the President of the United States clearly cannot: Preserve what is left of our dignity as Americans and our standing in the world; lift up our racial, ethnic and gender diversity; support our safety at the polls and beyond; and uphold our democracy--by cancelling the upcoming events.

We the People look forward to appropriate conduct by presidential candidates in 2024.
