Remove a dangerous victim blaming article "The part women play in domestic violence" and issue an apology

On May 12 The Age published an article entitled "The part women play in domestic violence" by Dr Sallee McLaren claiming that women "contributed 50 per cent to how this domestic violence situation came to be." The article goes on to essentially assert that if women were not brought up to like pink and be passive, and that if only women would take a stand when they were verbally abused by their partner the first time, men would not verbally or physically abuse them. This form of victim blaming is not only misinformed, it is dangerous and completely disrespectful to survivors of domestic violence.
The article also implies that all domestic violence involves male perpetrators and female victims. While it is much more likely for perpetrators of domestic violence to be male, glossing over other dynamics further acts to silence victims who already face additional stigma.
I would like to see The Age remove this article from its website and publicly apologise for publishing it.
