Stop Oscar nomination of Spanish bullfighting movie
Dear members of the Academy’s Foreign Language Film Award Committee,
The Spanish movie Blancanieves (Snow White) has a chance to receive the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film during the Oscars in 2013. From 17 December 2012 onwards the sent in movies for the Foreign Language Film award are put to the vote in Hollywood. Several bulls have been maltreated and killed for the production of Blancanieves: the story is a bullfighting version of Snow White and images of a bullfight are shown during the movie.
The prestigious Oscars have a global audience. During the presentation of the awards the best movies, actors, etc are rewarded for their quality. In our opinion a movie that is related to and is promoting animal suffering does not correspond to the high status of te Academy Awards.
The international organization CAS International, the Spanish Platform La Tortura No es Cultura, the international organization Animal Defenders International and the Dutch internetcommunity PiepVandaag have started this petition to ask you at least not to vote in favour of this movie and, preferably, not even allow Blancanieves a nomination for the Best Foreign Language Film Award. We hope you will consider our request and that the Academy Awards distances itself from this movie.
