Julius Nyingmeh started this petition to The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences

LionHeart, directed by one of Africa's most prominent cinema talents Genevieve Nnaji has been stripped off an opportunity to win an Oscar.

The movie, represents Nigeria's first-ever Oscar submission for best international feature film.

The grounds for this disqualification by The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science is baseless. English is the national language of Nigeria. Why should African talent not be recognized because a foreign language was forced upon us.

Director Genevieve Nnaji said the film represented how Nigerians communicate.

Ava DuVernay, director of Selma and A Wrinkle in Time, questioned the decision on Twitter, pointing out that English is Nigeria's official language.

This is completely unacceptable and this decision must be reversed and an apology made to Genevieve. We were taken into slavery, strange languages and cultures forced on us and as if that is not enough, our talents now do not deserve recognition because we learned these languages and write amazing scripts with them.

Every African and every sensible person must stand against this now !
