Thank you, Congress, for slavery apology

Congress deserves commendation from all Americans for finally passing an apology for slavery. I am grateful to Congress for supporting this resolution.  BUT, a formal apology, important though it is, is not enough. African-Americans have suffered far more than degrading humiliation and bias. They have had to overcome enormous economic and competitive obstacles, and many have failed to pass these obstacles. Millions still live in degraded conditions of poverty and hopelessness.  This means that substantial reparations are essential if contemporary America is truly repentant. African Americans deserve a program of substantial reparation in education, health care, housing, and employment opportunity.
