Josh Castle started a petition on Change.org asking the Space Needle to raise the Pride Flag on Seattle Space Needle for Seattle Pride 2011 like that had in 2010.
Nearly 10,000 people signed Josh's petition, but more importantly thousands of people shared their personal stories with the Space Needle about why the Pride flag was so important to them.
The stories moved the employees of the Space Needle so much that they decided to raise the flag once again this year.
Not only did the Space Needle raise the Pride Flag, but they also raised more than $50,000 for four amazing charities during a raise the flag fundrasing challenge: The Greater Seattle Business Assocation LGBT Scholarship Fund, Mary's Place, the It Gets Better Project, and Lambda Legal.
Please join me in thanking the employees at the Space Needle for working so hard to raise the Pride flag again this year.
- Space Needle Employees
Thank you for responding to the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community's request to raise the Pride flag once again.
It was clear to me that you heard my personal story and were as moved as I was to see the Pride flag last year.
This year was even more powerful, because your leadership helped inspire a city-wide show of Pride. Flags were flown by hundreds of businesses throughout town. You are a leader in our community, so thank you.
You also helped raise more than $50,000 for four charities doing amazing work for our community. They will help students go to school, prevent suicide, shelter the homeless, and defend our legal rights.Thank you.
Space Needle team, I know how hard you worked to pull this off. Thank you for the energy you put into this effort, and thank you for being a true friend.
I am proud the Space Needle represents my city. I am grateful you showed your Pride for me, my friends, and my family.
