Pursuant to Section 18 of the Traffic Management Act 2004 ‘Right to challenge parking policies’ we petition Thanet district council Council to reduce the parking charges in Birchington. These parking charges are driving shoppers from the retail areas causing harm to the local shops, pushing up the cost of living and making it harder for people to go about their everyday lives. The Department for Communities and Local Government states that .." parking strategies cannot simply be about restricting parking. They need to meet the best interests of road users, communities and businesses.". The imposition of disproportionately high parking charges in Birchington demonstrate that Thanet District Council is clearly ignoring the best interests of residents, businesses and road users. We believe a fair charge would be 50 pence for half an hour and £1.50 for one hour.
