Save our School Tree!

Save our School Tree!
Why this petition matters

This majestic Bitternut Hickory heritage tree is at risk to be cut down by the Thames Valley District School Board for a roadway at our overcrowded Eagle Heights Public School in London, Ontario!
The tree may be the LARGEST of its kind in the province at 35m / 120+ ft tall and 3.8m / 12.5 ft circumference. Are we not the Forest City?!
Our neighbourhood school is the most overcrowded in the city at 149% capacity with 17 portables which impacts our children, our community, and our ecology. We are asking that the tree be protected, the proposed roadway moved farther away from residents' backyards, and the school population boundaries adjusted to a more manageable size for the sake of the children's well-being.
Despite its boasts of Environmental Commitment, cutting down healthy mature trees shows a disappointing lack of environmental leadership by the Board - especially to our school children who will inherit our mistakes. The Board did not consult with or notify neighbours or our community association about this project and we only recently learned about it by chance very late in the process.
Help save this magnificent tree for the children in our Forest City - sign our petition asking TVDSB to re-think their plan with better options for all!
