Claire Adams started this petition to Texas State Senate and

As of 2017 there have been 4 mass shootings in Texas with 65 murdered, 84 injured, and many more scarred for life. In a recent survey, 37% of students said they sometimes felt uneasy in the presence of a semi-automatic weapon or assault rifle, and 34% said they felt terrified in the presence of these kinds of weapons. Not only are the display of these weapons inconsiderate, following recent events, but they are also a PTSD trigger for victims of a shooting and war veterans.

Following the El Paso shooting, guns owners displayed their weapons in Walmart. There was a rally in front of the Alamo where Texans waved "long weapons" (assault rifles, semi-automatic weapons, and rifles) to excercise their right to open carry.

We are not asking for a total gun reform, but we don't want to semi-automatic weapons and assault rifles while were grocery shopping. We are proposing a ban on the open carry of assault rifles and semi-automatic weapons. It is still legal in Texas, and we feel it is a constant reminder of the tragedies that have happened in the past few years. Dsiplaying assault rifles and semi-automatic weapons makes people uneasy, nervous, and it can be a trigger for some victims. We won't stand for it.
