Lifetime healthcare for Retired Texas Police Officers
Lifetime healthcare for Retired Texas Police Officers
Recently, my friend, who, like me, is a retired police officer, suffered a stroke. Being retired, he could not afford adequate health insurance. The result being that the hospital stabilized him and released him with no follow-up care or physical therapy. He has health insurance coverage that cannot assist him. I experienced a similar situation 12 years ago, fortunately, I had coverage through my wife’s employer. Many years of being a police officer can take a toll on the body. As things are, retired police officers have no healthcare coverage. The goal of this petition is to garner support in asking the Texas State Legislature to provide funding for lifetime healthcare coverage for eligible police officers, similar to the healthcare coverage provided to military veterans. Many Texas police officers cannot afford to pay for healthcare insurance due to loss of income resulting from retirement. Our state’s police officers protect our communities for many years. It is time we protect them.
