Why this petition matters

Started by Annie Nguyen

As a senior high school student, there is a tremendous amount of pressure concerning college admissions. Texas has a law in place that allows for the top 10% of students in their graduating class to be automatically admitted to all state-funded universities. Due to its increasing popularity over the years, UT has now lowered its auto-admission rate to 6%.

As admissions began to come out, there was an abundance of those that got "capped". CAP stands for "Coordinated Admission Program" which entails that students who did not gain regular admission to UT Austin have the ability to enroll in one of their other UT System institutions, like UT Dallas. These CAP decisions impacted people with many different academic and educational experiences. The way UT reviews applications should be reformed to a more fair and interpretive perspective. Signing this petition would bring light to the systemic issues that lie within the “holistic” review process and the criteria needed for a student’s admission that so many were wrongfully denied.
