Texas adoption bill means discrimination against LGBTQ people is legal
This petition had 33 supporters
Earlier this year, the Texas House passed HB 3859. This bill allows state-funded child welfare agencies like adoption and foster agencies to turn away potential parents and foster parents in the name of religious objection. This includes LGBTQ+ people, single parents, and non-Christians.
There are thousands of children awaiting adoption right now. By limiting the amount of loving homes and potential foster parents, the state government has created a situation which could easily lead to devastating effects for many children.
Foster homes are riddled with abuse and there are many wonderful LGBTQ+ people wanting to adopt or foster children right now. LGBTQ+ children often experience neglect, discomfort, harassment, and abuse. The bill also allows child welfare agencies to send children to practices like conversion therapy.
Please sign this petition to show your support for the many parents waiting to adopt children right now and to support children that are in desperate need of a good loving home.
