Texas Power Grid: Waive/Refund the "Estimated Usage" and Only Charge for Metered Power
Why this petition matters
Over the last two months, Texas New Mexico Power Company (TNMP) has issued grossly inflated electric bills to millions of Texans, some totaling thousands of dollars higher than normal. TNMP did not alert customers to these adjustments via email or phone, and most Texans only discovered the increased charges when their bill arrived — giving them less than a month's notice to secure the massive funds required to retain service.
TNMP claims the discrepancy occurred when they lost communication with their meters and were unable to measure power consumption. By their own admission, these higher-than-average bills are based on "estimated usage". As these totals were adjusted after the meters were replaced, they can not be verified or proven accurate.
We are urging Texas New Mexico Power Company to waive and refund all payments calculated using estimated usage. If TNMP does not waive or refund all payments calculated this way, we urge them to publicly prove, beyond reasonable doubt, these costs are based on actual consumption — not estimated, inflated, or miscalculated.
The people of Texas should not be charged for utility bills based on estimations. They have a right to pay only for the electricity they use. Please sign this petition to help ensure TNMP's customers are not exploited, price-gouged, or otherwise misused. If we stand together, we can help alleviate this unexpected financial burden for millions of Texans.
