Aarya Pardeshi started this petition to Texas officials

On the border of the Rio grande, which is the border of Texas and Mexico. One one side is El Paso, TX. On the other is Juarez, Mexico. Both cities depend on the river, and so does the ecosystem in and around it. But because of climate change the river has almost dried out through the decades, mostly because of the decreasing snow caps of the Rocky Mountains, where the river flows from.

Three states, Colorado, New Mexico and Texas depend on the Rio Grande to water their agriculture and their cities. Instead of protecting the river, these states fight to take as much water as they can, due to the fast decline in the water levels. This year in 2020, it is the lowest it has ever been and the ecosystem around it is dying out and species are becoming scarce.

Climate change and the annual droughts have caught the awareness of water managers and farmers that change must happen. Although, none has happened. We must take action such as artificially recharging rivers, cleaning up pollution as best as we can, connecting these rivers with flood plains, removing unused and unproductive dams, and taking action for protecting the environmental species.
