Legalize Marijuana

The legalization of marijuana in Texas would provide several health and economic benefits as seen by the other 29 states that have legalized its use. Marijuana has a laundry list of medicinal uses including the treatment of glaucoma, improving lung health, control of epileptic seizures, reduction in anxiety, and many other potential medical alleviations. Currently in the United States, over 2.5 million patients use marijuana for it's medicinal benefits and I believe that the natural herb can help many more.

In addition, legalization would help raise a significant revenue for the government.  The legal cannabis market was worth an estimated $7.2 billion in 2016 and is projected to grow at a compound annual rate of 17%. Medical marijuana sales are projected to grow from $4.7 billion in 2016 to $13.3 billion in 2020. Adult recreational sales are estimated to jump from $2.6 billion in 2016 to $11.2 billion by 2020. It would also provide many jobs and introduce a whole new market in Texas. A report from the New Data Frontier predicts that by 2020 the legal cannabis market will create more than a quarter of a million jobs. This is more than the expected jobs from manufacturing, utilities or even government jobs, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

These undeniable facts are why I believe the legalization in Texas would help it's citizens. With enough support, we can create a healthier and wealthier Texas.
