Hello, my name is Dorothea Sanchez and my son Juan Delgado was sentenced to 35 years in prison for his first offense as an adult. Before he was incarcerated, we had just buried my daughter, his only sister a month prior. Her unexpected fatal tragedy affected us all deeply. Juan took it hard and started hanging out with the wrong crowd leading up to the crime being committed. Juan grieved his sister's death the wrong way and he had to continue to grieve her death alone behind them walls I know my son has to take responsibility for his actions and I believe he has by already spending almost 5 years in prison (January 2021 will be 5 years). There was also 2 codefendants on this case and they both received 13 years versus Juan's 35 and the other 2 were on probation and criminal records while this was my son's first offense. My son has a 6 year old daughter that needs him in her life. She doesn't deserve to see her Dad behind prison walls until she is 18 years old. He is missing out on taking her to school everyday, attending school events, tucking her in at night, helping her with her homework, taking her to the park, and lots of other special moments. Juan has earned his GED while in prison and he works at night with the kitchen crew.. I see worse criminals sentenced everyday and their sentence is no where close to what my son was sentenced with. I know I am jumping out on a leaf here to ask for leniency for my son, but I believe anything is worth a try. Juan deserves to be home with his family and giving another shot at being a good citizen in society. Last note, even if his sentence was reduced to 13 years like his codefendants, would mean he could be up for parole in another year and a half. Please Governor help our family get my son Juan home or soon!
