ARLE Students started this petition to Texas Christian University

Recently, the College of Fine Arts at Texas Christian University has announced the termination of the Arts Leadership and Entrepreneurship (ARLE) Minor. This petition, started by a group of students in the ARLE minor, now seeks support from other students, TCU faculty, parents, and alumni alike as well as all other invested parties in order to protest the removal of this valuable program and the subsequent dismissal of Dr. Candace Matelic, a beloved professor who has overseen the entire minor for several years.

We request your signature for this petition that will be sent to Chancellor Boschini and the College of Fine Arts to advocate for keeping our minor intact.

Currently, we propose that either the College of Fine Arts reverses their decision, or the minor is transferred to the Entrepreneurship department of TCU’s Neeley School of Business. This minor is unlike any other offered here at TCU in that it gives students a chance to become leaders in the creative economy by facilitating the development of skills in areas such as community engagement, audience development, staff and volunteer management, and financial literacy. Reflected in nearly every course, is a contemporary approach to addressing the future of innovation in businesses and nonprofits. Inherent to this pursuit, is the program’s fearless embodiment of TCU’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI), concepts that have been integrally incorporated into every course since the minor’s inception. Losing this minor would be a detriment to both the University’s efforts with DEI, and to the futures of current and incoming students.

It is vital for TCU students, and especially those pursuing degrees in the fine arts, to have access to this curriculum specifically designed to prepare artists and creative thinkers to succeed in the quickly growing creative economy. The material is nuanced to align with this niche beyond what has been traditionally offered by TCU, and students know that nothing could replace the knowledge that we’ve gained from Dr. Matelic, a pioneer in arts leadership with a wealth of experiences and wisdom in entrepreneurship to share.

Join us as we work to save our Arts Leadership and Entrepreneurship Minor here at Texas Christian University. Go Frogs!
