On Texas Independence Day, March 2, 2021, Texas Governor Greg Abbott issued Executive Order GA-34, stating that, while still strongly encouraged to be worn, "no person may be required by any jurisdiction to wear or to mandate the wearing of a face covering."

In response to this order, Texas A&M University announced that the university's face covering policies and regulations will remain until at least March 10, and additional guidance will be issued before said date. This petition strongly urges Texas A&M to issue a statement in concurrence with Governor Abbott's executive order, stating that face coverings are no longer required. We ask that the mask policy change on and beyond March 10.

As proud, spirited, fighting Texas Aggies of Texas A&M University, we value the capability of leading with excellence and leading by example. For a full year, Texas A&M University faculty, staff, student body, and the offices have been tirelessly working to BTHO COVID-19 so that students are able to strive for excellence in their academics. They have fought the wars against the several obstacles of COVID-19 regulations, including but not limited to online learning, the establishment of quarantining areas, and economic reductions due to limited capacity. Like A&M, many other universities are struggling with the same situation. As leaders who influence by example, we ought to begin the process of "reopening Texas 100%". We ask that Texas A&M University start this by changing the current face covering requirement and take effect on March 10, 2021.
