The Peace River Regional District (PRRD) sent out a request to the provincial government to fun $5 million of a $250 million dollar expansion of the Dawson Creek Hospital. The response we received was that we "would be proceeding with the business plan 'at our own risk' because the project is currently not funded in the Ministry's Capital Plan"
Dawson Creek Mayor Dale Bumstead replied by saying "The minister and the province need to understand this is an important piece of infrastructure for our community,” Bumstead said, noting the hospital is the acute care and orthopedics center for a region with 35,000 people. “We need to make this message clear to the government. We’ve been prudent, we’ve been diligent putting our financial capacity in place to fund this"
Our city is being left in the dirt in terms of modern health care as both Grande Prairie, Alberta and Fort St. John, British Columbia have brand new facilities or under construction of new facilitates. If we want our community to grow we need our health care system to grow with it, including these renovations and ultimately a brand new hospital
