Michael Moorhead started this petition to Terre Haute Mayor Duke Bennett and
Murdered journalist Jamal Khashoggi was a 1983 graduate of Indiana State University. In memoriam, I propose that a portion of Wabash Avenue in downtown Terre Haute, IN be pedestrianized and named in his honor.
A pedestrianized downtown district would serve to revitalize the community and provide a spark for local commerce. Being a college town, downtown Terre Haute lacks a social focal point. Look to cities like Ithaca, NY (Ithaca Commons), Boulder, CO (Pearl Street), Burlington, VT (Church Street) -- as well as those throughout Europe -- to see the social and economic impact of such zones.
