Why this petition matters

Started by Anthony Cardenas

Chicago drivers have paid more than $1 billion dollars to the City of Chicago for Red Light Camera Tickets over the past 10 years. Most of these Red Light Cameras are placed in low-income communities, targeting low-income families that can’t afford to pay these fines and as a result, their Driver License either gets suspended or revoked.

ABC 7 Chicago News investigated the Red light cameras. They concluded traffic signals with a Red Light Camera have shorter green light durations compared to traffic signals without a camera.

Chicago Mayor, Lorie Lightfoot has recognized the corrupt systematic tactics put in place by other administrations looking to gain revenue from struggling citizens. Mayor Lightfoot recently put an end to the suspension of low-income drivers, Drivers Licenses due to the inability to pay traffic citations.

Studies show nationwide that injuries and accidents have not been reduced by these cameras. Red Light Cameras only reduce our bank accounts.

We are asking Mayor Lightfoot to put an end to these Red Light Cameras. If you or anyone you know has been affected by these cameras sign this petition to finally put an end to the systematic corruption.
