Merna Abdelgaber started this petition to Tennessee State Senate and

Nathan Bedford Forest murdered hundreds of African American Union soldiers who attempted to surrender during The Fort Pillow battle which was later recognized as a massacre. Forest is also known as the “grand wizard of the Ku Klux Klan.” His statue stands in Tennessee’s Capitol Hill building, our great state should not honor a leader who was responsible for so much hatred and murders. Unfortunately, seeing it is a part of our history; we should not forget it, and that is why I propose that we relocate the statue and not have it stand as memorial in one of the most powerful buildings in Tennessee. Our priorities and values are misinterpreted with that statue in our Capitol. As Tennesseans we shall not accept a statue who represents racism and white supremacy as it goes against what are country was founded on, All Men Are Created Equal. Not only are we representing racism we are defying what our country was fundamentally established on, the Declaration of Independence.  I say it is time we take a action and remove the Nathan Bedford Forest bust from Capitol Hill.
