Make Presidential Candidates Release Their Tax Returns
This petition had 779 supporters
This is a petition urging the Tennessee state legislature to pass a bill requiring candidates in future elections for the president of United States to publicly release their most recent tax returns dating back five years. If candidates do not comply, they would not be allowed on the ballot in Tennessee.
As concerned citizens of Tennessee, we believe that this is necessary to make sure that decisions made by the president are made in the interests of the country and not for the benefit of any one individual or group. We believe that transparency will prevent corruption at the highest level.
We further urge that the state legislature pass SB0588/HB1182 a bill requiring presidential candidates to file their most recent tax returns dating back five years with the Tennessee Secretary of State. Otherwise, they will not be allowed on the ballot in Tennessee. Though this bill does not require the automatic public release of a candidate’s tax returns, we believe it is a step in the right direction.
A summary of the bill can be found here. http://wapp.capitol.tn.gov/apps/BillInfo/Default.aspx?BillNumber=SB0588
