Many states surrounding Tennessee do not have mandatory helmet requirements, except for riders under age 18,  and novice riders. Helmets are not required for Sling Shot (Autocycle) operators and passengers. Drivers, riders and passengers who have met the requirements for a TN State drivers license or motorcycle endorsement should be permitted to choose to wear a helmet or not. It should not be a requirement, except for those mentioned above: minors or novice motorcycle riders. States in recent years have repealed their helmet laws - Pennsylvania and Michigan for example

Regarding Polaris Sling Shot helmet requirements, Sling Shots with roll bars offer more protection than convertibles, Jeeps, Dune Buggies, all of which do not require helmets to be worn by the occupants. Convertibles, Jeeps, Dune Buggies, and other open air vehicles do not require helmets. Sling Shots without tops and roll bars are no different than these.
