Why this petition matters
Whilst the government is making steps to ban Section 21 no fault eviction notices to tenants, more needs to be done give tenants clear details of their rights when signing up to a private tenancy agreement. In addition to this, Estate Agents need to take more responsibility when landlords they represent break the rules and try to exploit a tenant’s lack of understanding of their rights. At present Estate Agents only have loyalty to the landlord and not to the tenant. I believe that should Estate Agents be penalised for landlords that don’t meet their obligations of the tenancy. If this is successful, rogue landlords will find it harder to work with estate agents and rent their property. With better clarification of a tenant’s rights up front, tenants will be given a better chance fight for these rights.
No one should be evicted for asking for repairs or because the landlord wants to cheat the system for raising rents above the allowed amount.
