Petition update

A Natural Heritage System and Saving Waverly Woods

Apr 5, 2021 —

Many of you have noticed the amount of Niagara's natural areas being lost to development. As someone who has signed this petition to Save Waverly Woods you know that this an issue on the minds of many people. One of the best ways to protect our forests and wetlands for future generations is to preserve them, buffer them and link them together into a Natural Heritage System. The Region is planning to create such a system as part of their Official Plan Review.

There are various options available some of which favour development. Niagara Regional Council will soon make a critical decision on these various options that will impact this area forever. Will it be enough to protect what's necessary? What else can we do?

You are invited to a webinar on the Region’s plans to create a Natural Heritage System and a Water Resources System as part of the Niagara Region’s new Official Plan. Learn about what a Natural Heritage System is, how it can control development and why it is critical for Niagara’s economy.

Join Biodiversity and Climate Action Niagara to ask questions and join in a community discussion about the best way to preserve our natural heritage.

If you care about Waverly Woods and other natural areas in Niagara, I urge you to attend this webinar.
