In Canada, we've always had taxes on almost everything, but it hasn't always been an issue. The carbon tax, which began much before the COVID-19 pandemic, was part of the movement for climate change, in order to reach net-zero emissions by 2050; But is it really benefiting us? Even with free healthcare and education, Canadians are struggling financially, and the carbon tax plays a large role in this.

   Canadians continue to use carbon for gas, etc. even with the raised prices, showing that having the carbon tax is currently not helping. It cannot be avoided, since it is needed for daily use to live. Making it expensive does not solve the problem. Because of the pandemic, Canada (especially Ontario) is suffering from an inflation crisis. The carbon taxes could be gotten rid of temporarily, until the inflation rate goes down.

  There have been promises to bring the prices of electric cars down, but currently this solution is not being worked on. There are way more gas stations than electric charging stations in Canada as well, showing that this is clearly not in the interest of the government. 

  British Columbia and Newfoundland, However, have already taken action. They have delayed the carbon tax in order to allow Canadians to financially recover from the COVID-19 situation. The rest of Canada should be doing the same, especially provinces like Ontario and Quebec who need it the most right now. (Nova Scotia, however already has very less emissions, so they were dismissed from implementing a carbon tax since it began).

  As of now, it seems like the government wants us to continue using carbon and paying extra tax for it; so what can we do about this? By signing this petition, it shows the support of other Canadians that agree that this issue should be resolved. Others can have a say, and awareness about this is beneficial. 

Instead, another way to encourage the people to stop using carbon is by FUNDING them to use renewable sources, instead of THEM funding the government. Lowering the prices of these sources and allowing access to them everywhere is a great way to limit emissions. This could be a temporary resolution until the prices go back to what they were before. It would greatly help Canadians who are currently struggling to pay their bills. The carbon tax can then resume as normal.
