Maya Minhas started this petition to Temple University Office of Facilities Management

Despite priding itself as an inclusive and accessible environment, Temple University currently fails to support an important need of thousands of students and members of the Temple community: period products.

After speaking with several students of all different backgrounds and identities, it came to my attention that students/staff who experience periods are currently at a great disadvantage on Temple’s main campus.

During a recent survey, we found that no bathrooms on campus provide students with the products they may need to manage their periods during the school day.  Without this resource, individuals are often forced to miss classes, meetings, and any other additional commitments to return home or find a store and purchase products as needed. This reality not only negatively impacts students’ educations each month but also further disadvantages students monetarily.

With 13,000+ students living on or near Temple’s campus, increased period product accessibility would significantly improve students’ ability to focus on their education and careers. Temple’s decision to provide these products would be as simple as providing toilet paper for bathrooms, it serves a basic human need and enables individuals to get on with their days.

As of late 2018, Temple declined to provide products as, “Managing and resourcing such a program would be too expensive.” This petition is intended to demonstrate to administration the great importance and priority of providing accessible resources for students.
