#LetsTalkAboutMentalHealth! [Adding to BellLet'sTalk]
This petition had 127 supporters
#BellLetsTalk is an annual day where Bell Canada supports the movement to rid of stigma surrounding mental illness and mental health. They are doing a wonderful thing, which is donating 5 cents per interaction with the hashtag, text and phone call on January 25th, 2017 (the day this petition is being started.) You can follow the progress at http://letstalk.bell.ca/
As a person who thinks of herself as a mental health advocate and a social-activist, I believe other companies should follow the brilliant example led by Bell. Even if you're not a subscriber to Bell, you can still tweet, post, etc. using the hashtag, or geotag filter on snapchat, but most of your texts and phone calls don't count. That should not be the case.
This petition is to get the attention of these other companies and show them we care JUST as much even if we are not Bell subscribers. This is to ask them to HELP make a difference, even if it's just raising awareness. This is to ask everyone to BAND TOGETHER and give people with mental health issues a voice.
There is NO SUCH THING as too much support, and there is NO SUCH THING as too much love. Please sign this petition, and spread it so that we can grab those companies by the ear and make them listen.
Together we can add to #BellLetsTalk and create a foundation for #LetsTalkAboutMentalHealth so that everyone can participate in many more ways than ever thought possible.
A goal is also for the Minister of Health, Jane Philpott, to acknowledge our voices and create a movement for the Healthcare system of Canada to put more effort into caring for mental health issues so that it will have an equal priority to other health issues (physical, emergency, disease, etc.) Maybe we'll even get our Prime Minister to talk about this. The point is, we need to get talking!
A physical petition (pictures shown in this post) has been signed by many students at the University of Ottawa to show that they support this movement, and will be sent to Bell Canada headquarters, as well as the Ministry of Health Canada so that we can show them we care. I urge you to share this, not only because social media is a great platform to raise awareness, but also because it enables faster, direct campaigning. Thank you.
