Tell Universal Pictures to Cancel Fifty Shades Freed, in Light of #MeToo Movement
This petition had 3,019 supporters
As the #MeToo and Time's Up campaigns gain momentum, and protest male sexual violence against women that has become all too commonplace, we call upon Universal Pictures to withdraw Fifty Shades Freed. To distribute a movie that glamorizes and legitimizes sexual sadism at a time when women are courageously finding their voice to speak out against their abusers, is an insult to women everywhere.
If Hollywood is serious about stopping the sexual harassment and violence that has dominated the movie industry, then take a bold stand and stop Fifty Shades Freed from being distributed. We ask the powerful men and women at Universal, would you want your sons to become a Christian Grey, or your daughters to date a Christian Grey? We assume the answer is NO. So Universal Studios, do the courageous thing, put your money where your mouth is, take responsibility for the cultural power you wield. Cancel the release of Fifty Shades Freed.
