Tell the U.S. Congress: Maintain Support for UNICEF Funding!

Since its creation in 1947, UNICEF has saved more children’s lives than any humanitarian organization in the world.

UNICEF supports maternal, prenatal, and newborn care; child health and nutrition; clean water and sanitation; quality basic education for girls and boys; and protecting children from violence, exploitation, and AIDS.

UNICEF’s partnership with the U.S. Government and the American people makes a profound difference in children’s lives, cuttting the number of under-five child deaths from 12 million a year in 1990, to 6.9 million today.

However, we cannot forget the chilling fact that approximately 19,000 children still die every day from preventable causes. We believe that number should be ZERO! Getting to Zero involves everyone pitching in, including the U.S. Government.

Every fiscal year, the U.S. Congress must pass appropriations to fund U.S. Government programs and agencies, including the contribution to UNICEF. Despite the tight budget, the U.S. Government will provide funding for global development programs. We believe that funding should reflect the values of the American people to make children a priority of our international assistance.

A child in need knows no politics! That is why we ask the U.S. Congress, at the very least, to maintain the FY 2014 U.S. Government contribution to UNICEF at $135 million. Urge Congress to support $135 million for UNICEF in appropriations for FY 2014!
