Petitioning Representative John Boehner

Tell Speaker Boehner: We Want Prosperity, NOT Austerity!

More than 100 million people in the United States are struggling to make ends meet. Nearly a quarter of children live in poverty — more than half are children of color. Millions of people still cannot find work, and many who can have to work multiple jobs just to survive. Thousands of neighborhoods continue to be ravaged by foreclosures. All the while, the banks behind the financial crisis that led us into the worst recession since the Great Depression have seen their profits skyrocket.

Sign the petition to tell Speaker Boehner that enough is enough!

There is overwhelming evidence that the Republicans’ so-called “austerity plan” has stifled a real recovery. Yet, House Speaker Boehner continues to insist that the sequester cuts will stay in place until President Obama agrees to more tax breaks for the rich and deep cuts in vital safety-net programs including Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.

This is exactly the opposite of what we need!

Tell House Speaker Boehner and his far-right allies that we need a prosperity economy. One that invests in better education, rebuilds our crumbling infrastructure, expands access to health care, and strengthens our retirement security.

It is time for Speaker Boehner to stop coddling the wealthy, who have seen their fortunes rebound, and start working to help everyday Americans who are struggling to find jobs that pay a living wage, access health care and pay for retirement.

Sign our petition today and tell Speaker Boehner to end the sequester and pass a budget that invests in creating jobs and strengthening our economy.

Letter to
Representative John Boehner
More than 100 million people in this country are struggling to make ends meet and nearly a quarter of children — the majority children of color — live in poverty. The Great Recession continues to ravage the economy with millions unemployed, many more unable to find work that pays a living wage, and thousands of neighborhoods still suffering widespread foreclosures.

Your so-called “austerity budget” is only further damaging our economy. Your focus on reducing the national debt rather than creating jobs is keeping millions of people unemployed and underemployed. And your attempts to slash the social safety net, including Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, food stamps, and Unemployment Insurance will only drive more families into poverty.

The sequester has damaged economic growth and is causing cuts in programs vital to the poor, the elderly and the disabled.

I am calling on you to end the sequester and pass a budget now that invests in creating jobs and strengthening our economy!
