When Sheetz built its expansive new location right off of 119, they shuttered the doors to their Scottdale store and barricaded the parking lot. Years later, the property is now an overgrown shell with “No Loitering” signs ironically adorned to the sides of the once bustling building. 

I like Sheetz. Our community likes Sheetz. However, Sheetz has repaid us for years of loyal patronage by leaving this massive and heartbreaking eyesore in the most heavily trafficked location in our town. 

Blighted properties affect communities’ health and safety, reduce property values, deter potential residents, and increase crime. The dilapidating Sheetz property is undoubtedly contributing to all of these. It is a drain on our town and it is time we say enough to corporate profits over our community— enough to Sheetz holding our town hostage. 

As a community partner who has an interest in Scottdale’s well-being, we ask Sheetz to release this property to be redeveloped and revitalized.
