Tell Senators Cassidy and Kennedy to Protect Health Coverage
This petition had 33 supporters
Dear Senator Cassidy and Senator Kennedy,
We are greatly concerned about the serious consequences of the health care bill that passed the House of Representatives. If the bill in its current form is enacted into law, hundreds of thousands of Louisiana citizens will lose their access to health care.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services data shows that the uninsured rate in Louisiana has fallen by 33 percent since the ACA was enacted in 2010, translating into 420,000 Louisianians gaining coverage. In addition to residents who would otherwise be uninsured, millions more Louisianians with employer, Medicaid, individual market, or Medicare coverage have also benefited from new protections as a result of the law.
An estimated 37,000 Louisiana jobs will be lost if Congress ends the Medicaid expansion program and premium tax credits linked to the federal Affordable Care Act, according a report from the Milken Institute School of Public Health at George Washington University.
The estimated financial impact on Louisiana is even more dismal: $639.7 million loss in state and local taxes; $39.1 billion loss in business output and a $21.5 billion hit to the gross state product.
This is a matter of life and death and it is your responsibility to protect your constituents. Please do not support any attempt to roll back healthcare access and coverage for the people of Louisiana.
