It is estimated by some of the world's preeminent fisheries scientists’ that the ocean ecosystem will completely collapse by 2049 unless something is done to change the current trajectory. The current trajectory is the decline of the wild fish population due to the most detrimental issue of over-fishing. It is estimated that 20% of the world's protein is derived from fish.
According to Charles Clover’s The End of the Line documentary, “hundreds of millions of people in the world depend on fish to keep them alive. For 1.2 billion people, it is a key part of their diet”. If we continue down the current path that we are on we will lead, or should I say eat, ourselves straight into an era of famine; whether it be for the whole world or just a portion of it.
In order to put this issue to an end and prevent this potentially devastating and irrevocable problem from becoming OUR harsh reality, politicians need to enforce, with an iron-fist, a monthly or annual quota that will prevent the fishing fleet from over-fishing and ravaging our seas!
"We know that when we protect our oceans, we’re protecting our future."
- President Bill Clinton
