In 2007, former Governor Ted Strickland signed an Executive Order banning discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity for state employees. That Executive Order expired at the end of Governor Strickland’s term and must be re-signed by Governor John Kasich in order to continue protecting LGBT state employees. Governor Kasich has signed an Executive Order, but did not include gender identity protections -- leaving transgender state employees open to unfair and discriminatory firings.
Throughout his campaign for governor, John Kasich indicated to the Columbus Dispatch and other media outlets that he supports an inclusive Executive Order.
Join fair-minded and pro-equality Ohioans, and folks across the country who are watching this unfold, in signing this petition, telling Governor Kasich to treat all Ohioans with fairness and dignity.
- Ohio Governor
- Governer of Ohio
On behalf of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Ohioans across the state, as well as pro-equality allies, we ask that you continue in the tradition of your fair-minded predecessor and sign an Executive Order banning discrimination in state employment based on sexual orientation AND gender identity.
The prior Executive Order -- covering lesbian, gay, bisexual, AND transgender public employees -- expired at the end of Governor Ted Strickland's term. Though there are now protections for sexual orientation, there are still no protections for transgender state employees. They are vulnerable, and we ask you to do the right thing -- the fair thing -- and reinstate a fully-inclusive Executive Order.
