Hard Times - for some
Dec 10, 2014 — John Lewis unveiled its latest Christmas advert, spending £7 million pounds on Monty the Penguin, to charm us into shopping there this season.
But the real way they could spread the Christmas cheer would be to ensure that everyone in their shops, including those who tidy up after us, earns enough to make ends meet. Despite their profit sharing bonus for directly employed staff, John Lewis still doesn’t pay a Living Wage to their cleaners.
I support Citizens UK and ShareAction who are calling on John Lewis, amongst the 11 other biggest UK retailers, to stop scrooging and pay a Living Wage to all their staff. We’re tired of none of these shops paying fair, and we think that John Lewis should be the first to step up!

John Lewis is set to achieve record sales this Christmas. With a bit of public pressure, let’s see if we can get them to be the first of these 12 to ensure that everyone in their shops earns enough to live on.
