Over the past few months Donald Trump has raised his profile considerably, flirting with a potential candidacy for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination. In addition to championing the "birther" argument and suggesting that President Obama was not born in the United States, Trump has also defined his politics with some disturbing anti-equality views.
As the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) notes, Trump has consistently spoken out against marriage equality for same-sex couples, even going so far as to say that he'd be uncomfortable recognizing civil unions for same-sex couples.
"I just don't feel good about it. I don't feel right about it. I'm against it… I'm opposed to gay marriage," Trump has said. In other interviews on the subject, Trump has added "I'm not in favor of gay marriage. They should not be able to marry."
These anti-equality views run contrary to the majority of Americans, who believe that all couples deserve the freedom to marry. It's time to hold Trump accountable for these decidedly anti-gay views.
Next month, the International Gay and Lesbian Travel Association (ILGA) will meet to discuss whether Trump properties in Las Vegas and New York should lose their membership in the ILGA, due to Trump's anti-gay views. Send a message to the board that, indeed, Donald Trump should be held accountable for taking these anti-gay views. Simply put, his properties do not deserve LGBT dollars.
