Tell Governor Scott: Don't cut funding for survivors of sexual assault.
Governor Rick Scott just vetoed $1.5 million in funding for rape crisis centers across Florida. Ironically, he did this during sexual assault awareness month.
Rape crisis centers in Florida depend on donations to cover much of their operating costs-- and in recent years, donations have significantly declined, severely limiting their ability to help survivors of sexual assault and rape in Florida.
The $1.5 million in funding which was approved by the Florida's Republican dominated legislature would have doubled the number of sexual assault and rape survivors the centers serve and the programs they provide-- but now, each rape crisis center in Florida stands to lose $30,000 to $100,000 because of Governor Scott's veto.
Tell Governor Scott: Shame on you for defunding rape crisis centers in Florida. I urge you to immediately reverse your decision to veto funding for survivors of sexual assault.
Anti-woman lawmakers across the country and at the federal level are trying to defund programs that help and provide health care to women -- and now Governor Scott has joined their ranks with his latest decision to veto $1.5 million in funding to help survivors of sexual assault and rape in Florida.
It's outrageous even for someone as radical as Governor Scott. Funding for rape crisis centers made it out of both houses of the legislature where Republicans enjoy 2 to 1 majorities -- there is clear bipartisan support for serving the needs of survivors of sexual assault and rape.
Governor Scott needs to experience an overwhelming backlash from those of us who oppose his veto. If we take action and tell our friends we can ensure that those who demand this funding be reinstated will far outnumber those who support his extreme decision.
Tell Governor Scott: Shame on you for defunding rape crisis centers in Florida. I urge you to immediately reverse your decision to veto funding for these critically important centers.
