Tell Governor Schwarzenegger to Support Farm Worker Health

This petition made change with 86 supporters!

After 85 people signed Change.org's petition asking Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to pass the Farm Worker Health Act (A.B. 1963), he signed the bill into law on September 29, 2010. Under new regulations, labs testing farm workers' blood for pesticide exposure are required to report their findings to state agencies like the California Department of Pesticide Regulation. The new law will hopefully prevent farm laborers' overexposure to dangerous neurotoxins like organophosphates and carbamates.

Tell California's Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to sign the Farm Worker Health Act.

The act will reduce pesticide poisoning by requiring the medical agencies that test farm workers for poisoning to actually report their results to a state agency.

Augmenting the 1974 Medical Supervision Program, the act is designed to monitor farm workers who work with organophosphate and carbamate pesticides. Right now, no law requires findings from blood tests done to prevent and track exposure to these pesticides in farm workers to be reported to the California Department of Pesticide Regulation. This act would require that reporting.
