Weekend Challenge: Ask JUST ONE person to sign the petition!

Jun 27, 2015 — The Good News: More names are being added to the Bring Back Classic Google Maps petition every day and they've started to come in faster now too!

The Bad News: One of the reasons for the increased pace is that last week Google shut down the last remaining URL that went to a fully functional version of Classic Maps. So people are more motivated than ever to join the campaign. And here's an easy way to help!

Over the weekend, ask just ONE person you know -- a family member, friend, classmate, colleague, the kid who mows your lawn -- to sign the petition. Just one!

If everybody who has already signed it can get just one more person to add their name, we'll have more than 27,000 signatures by the end of the weekend! And if the new people can each get one person... well, you see where I'm going here.

Some people have mentioned that they're not sure what to say in an email or on social media, so I've posted some samples on the Tech for Luddites website. You're welcome to use them as is or customize them however you'd like.

Try to think of a person who might have a particularly strong vested interest in Maps due to their jobs or hobbies. Here are some ideas:

- Drivers, dispatchers and logistics planners for trucking companies, tour bus operators, taxi services, delivery services, roadside assistance
- Motorcycle, classic car, and RV enthusiasts
- Home service providers: health aides, plumbers, electricians, cable installers, HVAC technicians, cleaners, landscapers, movers, home and auto insurance adjusters
- Architects, engineers, building contractors
- Sales professionals
- Realtors, appraisers, inspectors, house hunters
- Travel agents, vacation planners
- Touring performers
- Cyclists and hikers
- Journalists, photographers, event planners, speakers, substitute teachers...

Just. One.

Please note: change.org doesn't provide an option to update petition signers without posting it publicly here, where the recipient of the petition can also see it. I have other updates I prefer to share privately with campaign supporters. If you would like to receive those emails, please sign up for them at http://techforluddites.com/bring-back-classic-google-maps-campaign. I will not add your name to any other mailing list unless you explicitly request it.
