Tell Elkhart City Council to Fund the Tolson Center

The Tolson Community and Youth Center is important to the city of Elkhart. It serves the youth of Washington Gardens, Elkhart Community Schools, the south side neighborhood, and people across the city. It is a place for seniors to gather and for the community to host events. It is a safe, beautiful space for athletics, study, mentoring and recreation — and it's future is at risk.

Several members of the Elkhart City Council are working hard to reduce the funding Tolson Community receives from the city. But community organizers and concerned residents have been fighting just as hard to make sure it gets the resources it deserves. As budget hearings come to a close next week, we need as many people as possible to make two demands:

  1. Full, adequate funding for Tolson CenterNO to budget reductions or de-funding. YES to investment in adequate leadership, staff and facilities so the center can grow and continue serving the people.
  2. Tolson Center remains in the hands of the city and the communityNO negotiations with Lifeline or any third-party without support of those who use it the most. YES to planning and partnerships that have gone through a community-wide, public approval process.

Community members are standing strong to say, "SAVE TOLSON!" Please add your voice to the cause.

Sincerely,
Nekeisha Alayna Alexis, Dwight Fish, Sheree LaVette Harris, Joshua Holston, Kenneth Hunt, Doug Mulvaney, Tanzie Nielsen, Tonna Robinson and many others. With support from Indivisible 02 Equality Committee: Nate Levi-Aspenson, Kel Beatty, Edward, Liptrap and Jordan Giger.
