Why this petition matters

Doordash goes by ratings in order for dashers to keep their jobs. If you sign this petition, they will have to notice! As long as we do our job as per the contract, no other human being should have our job in their hands! Customer ratings go down, dashers can lose their jobs. Though some ratings may need investigated, it's wrong to deactivate someone solely based on the ratings, as they are sometimes left by customers wanting an employee to do tasks beyond what their job allows. Not all ratings are accurately left, though there's some that are, don't get me wrong. We need to care about the company finding out facts, rather than threatening deactivation without even looking into it. From the first time dashing I've only ever had five stars. This can change quickly, though I do my job, and do it well. Some customers want a dasher to do more than they're required to do, then get angry and spiteful if they don't. For example; I've heard one Dasher say the customer put in the wrong address, so they asked the Dasher to drive to the correct address, which was in another town completely. The Dasher politely said they couldn't do that, so the customer left a one star rating, though the Dasher did nothing wrong, and nothing to deserve the lowest rating. This was the customer's error, but the Dasher got punished for it, and a couple more like this could cost said Dasher his/her job. This is unfair. True customer complaints are something to look into, but not low ratings without an explainable cause. You see, we're "independent contractors," but Doordash still treats us like we have a boss standing over us, this, getting around the very definition of an independent contractor. In any case, no one should fear losing their job over ratings before it is even investigated. Doordash does not even ask questions from either party. If your ratings reach a specific number, it's deactivation. You get no warning. This is wrong! Please sign this petition to show you are a good employee, and not just a rating.
