The Heartland Institute has publicly attacked climate scientists and those who believe in climate change as murderers and terrorists, as shown by their recent billboard campaign. To equate scientific authorities around the world—such as all of the national science academies in industrialized countries, NASA, and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change—with terrorists like Osama bin Laden is beyond reason. Heartland president Joseph Bast has even publicly refused to apologize for this absurd comparison, standing by Heartland’s initial statement on its Unabomber billboard:
"The people who still believe in man-made global warming are mostly on the radical fringe of society. This is why the most prominent advocates of global warming aren’t scientists. They are murderers, tyrants, and madmen."
By funding the Heartland Institute, we believe your company is opposing appropriate policy discourse as well as basic respect for sound science. Your financial support for the Heartland Institute links your corporate brand to Heartland’s fringe positions, which do not encourage productive policy discussions and has never reflected a honest scientific position on climate change. By providing funding to Heartland, your company is complicit in misinforming the public about global warming's catastrophic effects and attacking those who are asking for solutions.
