The last shutdown was the longest government shutdown in American history, at 35 days! It cost the American economy $11 billion. Not to mention, the 800,000 federal workers who went over a month without pay. Shutting down the government should not be a political bargaining tool. Lives shouldn’t be put on the line while Congress debates. Tell Congress make government shutdowns a thing of the past.

Congress can pass the Stop Shutdowns Transferring Unnecessary Pain and Inflicting Damage in the Coming Years Act, AKA: the Stop STUPIDITY Act, and end government shutdowns for good.

The Stop STUPIDITY Act would make it so going forward, if budget negotiations are not resolved in time, existing government funding would continue unchanged. With one exception, money allocated for the Legislative Branch and the Office of the President would be frozen. The Stop STUPIDITY Act would make it so Congress and the President’s Office are the ones paying for D.C. gridlock; not federal workers, farmers, business owners, and taxpayers.

The last government shutdown hurt families across the U.S. From the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) employees who were forced to go to food pantries and forego vital medicines during the shutdown; to the farmers and business owners who couldn’t get the loans and funding they were promised. The last shutdown cost the U.S. economy billions. It doesn’t have to happen again. Tell Congress to pass the Stop STUPIDITY Act today.
