Between 1915 and 1917, up to 1.5 million Armenians were deported and massacred. There are currently 22 countries that have recognized this genocide, but the United States is not one of them.
House Resolution 106 condemning the Armenian Genocide has passed committee but may not be scheduled for a full vote. Powerful lobbyists hired by Turkey have scared away much of the support the motion has in Congress.
Urge your representatives to condemn the Armenian Genocide.
Please do not let powerful lobbyists and Turkish bullying silence an important message: that the United States stands with the Armenian people and recognizes the genocide.
We lacked the moral leadership to prevent many of the genocides that followed. And even today we are struggling to prevent the massacre in Darfur. It is more important than ever that we remember this terrible history and condemn it.
