Tell Congress: Protect students from bullying
All students deserve an educational environment free from fear.
But recently, Republicans in states like Michigan and Tennessee have introduced legislation that is nothing more than a thinly veiled attempt to legalize anti-gay bullying and give students the license to taunt and torment their peers. This “license to bully” legislation would give legal protection for bullies if their actions are based in their “religious, philosophical, or political views.”
The proliferation of state legislation that legally protects bullies underscores the urgent need for a national non-discrimination act that shields students from bullying. We can’t allow politicians who want to discriminate against gay students to continue to try to make schools a dangerous place - we need a national law that protects students from bullying.
Urge your representative to co-sponsor the Student Non-Discrimination Act to ban hate in schools.
