Tell Congress: Protect Federal Nutrition Programs That Feed Kids

According to numbers released by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, more than 16 million children live in households that struggle to put enough food on the table. That’s 1 in every 5 children!

For kids facing hunger, their families rely on vital anti-hunger programs like SNAP, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (formerly known as food stamps). In fact, SNAP feeds more kids than any other federal program, making it our nation’s most powerful and effective anti-hunger program for children.

Right now, Congress is debating the Farm Bill, legislation that includes funding for SNAP.  Some members are looking to slash funding for SNAP, meaning even more kids will face hunger in America.

We can't let vital anti-hunger programs experience any additional cuts. Federal nutrition programs are critical in ensuring all American children get the food they need to reach their full potential.

Join Share Our Strength's No Kid Hungry campaign today by calling upon your representatives to stand up for kids and prevent these devastating cuts. Sign the petition to tell Congress we can't balance the budget on the backs of kids.

As a constituent and a supporter of Share Our Strength's No Kid Hungry campaign to end childhood hunger in America, I urge you to protect funding for critical federal nutrition programs, including the Supplemental Nutrition and Assistance Program (SNAP) and SNAP Education as you begin work again on reauthorizing the Farm Bill.

As you may know, nearly half of all SNAP participants are children. Cuts or policy changes to the program will burden those kids with long-term consequences to their health, education and economic futures. SNAP is our first line of defense against childhood hunger in America.

SNAP Education, or SNAP Ed, empowers millions of families across the country with the critical skills and information they need to shop for and prepare healthy, nutritious foods for their kids. SNAP Ed empowers families to stretch their food dollars and maximize the nutrition they're getting with these resources. SNAP-Ed is an investment in the food security and health of low-income families and children in America, and it's critical that this program is protected.

As the economy slowly recovers, federal nutrition programs like SNAP and SNAP Ed make sure families don't have to choose between putting food on the table and paying their rent. These programs are critical in making sure all American children get the food they need to reach their full potential.

Let's not balance the budget on the backs of children who need us.
