In 2008 the Colorado state legislature passed legislation banning the use of veal and gestation crates, two hugely cruel practices in factory farming. Now let's urge them to ban the use of battery cages for egg laying hens. Animals in these conditions cannot spread their wings or even turn around. A few states have recently passed this kind of legislature and it's time for Colorado to follow suit!
In 2008, our State Legislature passed legislation prohibiting two cruel factory farming practices: veal crates and gestation crates. However, the use of battery cages for egg laying hens is still in practice. Lately, other states have been taking a stand against the cruelty of battery cages and it's time for Colorado to follow suit. By banning battery cages we can improve the quality of life for millions of animals that cannot spread their wings or even turn around for their entire lives. Treating these animals as mere egg-laying machines is not only wrong, it should be outlawed.
I am writing to you because I believe strongly in the welfare of animals and any efforts to improve the quality of their lives should be taken into consideration. I am only one voice but I'm going to use it for those who don't have one at all.
