Tell California Lawmakers: Protect Sports and Music Fans

Whether we’re catching an Angels’ game at Angel Stadium of Anaheim or concerts at HP Pavilion, one thing is certain: California fans are frustrated by the ticketing industry. From enormous fees to ultra-fast sellouts, when it comes to tickets, it seems us fans always get the short end of the stick. But there’s a light at the end of the tunnel: California legislators are considering legislation to end the worst abuses of the ticketing industry.
1. Preserves Fan Ownership: The pending bill, AB 329 would preserve consumer and individual rights to freely transfer concert and sporting event tickets. The bill ensures we own the tickets we buy, and ticket sellers can’t prohibit or restrict our ability to give away or resell our tickets.
2. Eliminates Unfair Competition: AB 329 addresses the black market of unregulated scalpers by prohibiting the use of robotic ticket-buying software, or “bots”. Bots are designed to bombard online box offices with thousands of simultaneous purchase requests thereby gobbling up the best seats and preventing the average fan from obtaining tickets.
For too long, the ticketing industry has worked against the people it is supposed to serve: the fans. Legislation to preserve a fair and honest marketplace for tickets in California has been introduced, but Ticketmaster and industry insiders oppose this legislation.
Write to the members of the California Senate and Assembly to ask them to stand with fans, not with the ticket industry.
